What is a Transitional Object?
A Transitional Object is a blanket, piece of cloth or toy (usually soft) which a child becomes attached to and takes comfort from. The child usually displays an attachment to the item. The object is used for self soothing and to reduce anxiety. Attachment to objects often begins to develop around 6 months of age and peaks between 18 and 30 months.![]()
