In Memoriam
Ellery
1986-2004
He treed the red panda, stood off a Great Dane, tangled with a bobcat,
and terrorized the neighborhood cats (until Spenser took over). He
loved deli turkey, sleeping on my bed, hanging out in the garden, and lounging
in the winter sunshine on the heat register. He was diagnosed with
oral squamous cell carcinoma in April and became part of a clinical study
of the effectiveness of two drug treatments for this tumor type. He was
euthanized on July 21, 2004 after bravely struggling with his cancer up
until the end.
