Overview of the Graduate Program in Mathematics at Kansas State University

Programs of Study: The department of mathematics offers the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Our 32 faculty members have diverse mathematical interests and a common dedication to teaching and research. There is a substantial endowment for colloquia and conferences. At present we are extremely strong in harmonic analysis, operator theory, geometry, group theory, and applied mathematics . Our applied mathematics group is active in computational fluid dynamics, wave propagation, reaction diffusion equations, and numerical analysis. In addition, our researchers are actively pursuing such areas as categorical topology, global analysis, quantum field theory, and harmonic analysis, operator theory, geometry, group theory, and analytic number theory . All graduate students are afforded close contact with the senior faculty.

Assistantships and Scholarships: Teaching assistantships for AY94-95 have stipends of approximately $1,000 per month for nine months, with an additional $2315 for summer support. There is also a substantial endowment for scholarships and fellowships. All TAs enjoy a full tuition waiver; the remaining miscellaneous fees total approximately $250 per semester.
