String Fling 2005

Students are assigned to orchestras alphabetically by city. The following conductors have been invited to conduct the seven orchestras for 2005:

·         All students are expected to be on their best behavior during String Fling weekend.

·         No matter what the weather conditions are, String Fling is never canceled. Refunds cannot be made if your group has to cancel because of the weather.

·         If you plan to attend String Fling and bring students, parental help will probably be necessary. Each group of students must have an adult sponsor or teacher with them.

·         You are responsible for making motel reservations.

·         Chris Banner will be available to sell strings and to make minor repairs.

·         Coffee and snacks will be served in our hospitality room (McCain 135) for directors and parents.

·         The K-State Union will serve lunch and dinner on Saturday.

·         Bring pencils. Bring music stands with both sections clearly marked with name and town.

·         Bring a swimming suit and towel if you wish to go swimming.

·         Music will not be sent out in advance.

·         Dress for the Sunday concert: Girls—dresses or dressy slacks/blouse
                                                 Boys—dress trousers & shirts (ties not required)

9:00 11:45        Rehearsal      Please arrive at your orchestra no later than 8:40 .

11:45                 Lunch at location of your choice (at Union , if desired)

5:00 6:00         Swimming at KSU Natatorium (Bring your suit & towel.)

10:00                 Concert No. 1 in McCain Auditorium. The students in these four orchestras may go home after this concert. Orchestra schedule tba in January letter.

11:00                 Concert No. 2 in McCain Auditorium.  Orchestra schedule tba in January letter.

12:00                 Concerts finished by 12:00

 

 

KSU String Fling Student Registration—Please follow directions carefully!

 

1.       Directors should print students' names on the appropriate enclosed rosters. Photocopy the completed rosters and keep a copy for your records. Send all the rosters and one check to Ms. Freddie Everett in one packet.

2.       Fee per student: $26.00  Check payable to: Manhattan Youth Symphony.”  This covers all expenses for the two days except lodging and meals. Please do not staple check to rosters

3.       Please write one check to pay for all the students. Applications will not be processed unless one check for the entire amount is enclosed. Any motel reservation payments are completely separate from String Fling and should be made directly to the motel. Make your motel reservations as soon as possible.

4.       Late registrations after December 25 will cost $30/student instead of $26. There will be absolutely no late registrations allowed after January 5—no exceptions!

5.       You may make a substitution of students only if the student plays the same instrument (including the Violin I & II distinction) and will be in the same orchestra level. Cancellations after January 5 will not receive a refund.

7.       We'll send you information about placement and orchestra locations in mid-January. You'll be able to tell your students their orchestra location before they go to String Fling. Have them write the location information on a card and put it in their instrument cases.
