34. Patrick Cody was born in Mar 1801 in Ireland. He died in Jan 1875 in Sombra Twp., Ontario. He was buried in St. John's RC, Sombra, Ontario. Birthplace in Ireland not certain. He was married to Mary Hogan.

35. Mary Hogan was born about 1805 in Ireland. She died on 26 Nov 1861 in Sombra Twp., Ontario. She was buried in Wallaceburg, Ontario. Death date from T. McCarron. Burial place apparently "near" Riverview Cem. near where daughter Mary Cody Gormley, and James Gormley, and second wife are all buried. Riverview Cem. located on former Lawrence Cody farm opened in 1878. Reaume letter of 16 June 1993 mentioned name Hogan. Children were:

iv. Patrick Cody was born on 29 Sep 1835 in Hope River, Prince Edward Island. ⁽²⁴⁾ He was baptized on 7 Jan 1836 in Rustico, Prince Edward Island. He died on 2 May 1894 in Ontario. He was a Shoemaker. He was buried in Riverview Cemetery, Sombra, Ontario.
In the 1871 Census he and his wife Margaret Coffey were living with their four children on the farm of his father, also Patrick Cody. Patrick was a shoemaker, and Schedule 6 of the 1871 Census shows him with $50 of fixed capital, $300 of floating capital, 600 lbs of leather of $300 value. The Census says he produced "boots and shoes" of $600 value.

Patrick Cody seems to have been a very interesting person. The 1881 Census lists him as "Free Thinker" in its religion column. At the time of his second marriage (June 1887), to Mary Ann Murray, he apparently was compelled to sign a statement promising to bring up any children of that marriage in the Catholic Faith. This statement was pinned to the back of the page containing the church's marriage record. (Patrick Gormely examined this document and the rusty pin holding it in July 1993 at the rectory in Port Lambton, Ontario.) The obituary at the time of his death mentioned his independent thinking.
