2. Transferring files to and from the PC
If you only want to upload data and not use the scanner, start at
"Uploading Data to KSUVM' below.
2. Press the <ENTER> key on the microcomputer to end the screen saver program. At the top of the screen it will read: "Instructions for scanner use:" and at the bottom will be the prompt: "Scanner>". If the bottom reads: "C:\SCANNER", then enter the command SCANNER and press <ENTER> to start the scanning program.
3. The data from the scanning program will need to be stored somewhere. If using the hard disk, use C: for the drive designation. If using the 3 1/2 inch drive, use A: for the drive designation. If using the 5 1/4 inch drive, use B: for the drive designation.
4. Change any options needed. There are three options listed on the screen and may need to be changed. To change the option, enter the letter "A", "B", or "C" and press <ENTER>.
A) SET MULTIPLE -- If multiple marks are valid for any question, then, the MULTIPLE option should be changed to YES. Enter YES and press <ENTER>.
B) SET ITEMS ### -- If there are fewer than 50 questions on the exam, the ITEMS should be set to the number of last question used on the exam. Enter the new number and press <ENTER>.
C) SET FILENAME -- The name of the file to be created can be changed with this option. The default name will be: A:SCANNER.DAT. Generally, it is a good idea to use a different name for each exam during the semester. Enter the new drive designation: filename.extension and press <ENTER>.
5. Place the sheets in the hopper on the right side of the scanner. Place a stack of sheets against the guide at the left side and front side of the hopper. The sheets must be printed side up and have the timing marks (the small black boxes that are across the bottom) against the front side of the hopper. Place the magnetic card guide against the upper edge of the stack.
6. Start the read operation by entering READ or R and press <ENTER> at the Scanner> prompt. When the message on the screen says: "Waiting for input from scanner...", then push the START button on the scanner.
7. When all the forms have been scanned, press the ESC key. This key is on the top row, at the far left side of the microcomputer keyboard.
8. The program will ask you, "Do you want to upload your data?" If you do not want to upload the data to KSUVM (mainframe), enter NO and press <ENTER>. This will return to the main screen. Take the data on the diskette and use it elsewhere. The scanner is ready for the next person.
1b. If you want to bypass the scanner program and only upload data to KSUVM, then enter MSKERMIT and press <ENTER>. This will display additional instructions and start up the KERMIT file transfer program.
2. Enter CONNECT or C and press <ENTER> <ENTER> (press it twice) at the Kermit-MS prompt.
3. Enter KSUVM and press <ENTER> at the SELECT DESTINATION: prompt.
4. Enter VT100 and press <ENTER> at the ENTER TERMINAL TYPE: prompt. The VM/370 logo should be displayed at this point.
5. Enter userid and press
6. Follow the directions on the screen, entering password, account
number, etc. as prompted and press <ENTER> after each entry.
7. Enter UPLOAD drive:filename.extension after the Ready; prompt,
where drive is the drive designation (A:, B:, or C:) and
filename.extension is the name of the file containing the data.
8. When the file transfer has completed, enter LOGOFF and press
<ENTER>.
9. Enter ALT-X and press <ENTER>.
10. Enter EXIT and press <ENTER>. The main menu will be displayed
and the scanner is ready for the next person.
To run the GRADER/ROSTER programs, you should log on to a terminal at
another location to prepare and run the exam.
