Write on one of the following topics:
Topic A. Explain the functions of the episode with Suzy in the story as a whole.
Topic B. What does it mean, literally, in the story, for one's boots to fill up with water? What might this idea mean figuratively? Explain.
Topic C. Show how the river Lyman and Henry visit is experienced, by Henry, in ways that help make sense of what happens while the two are there.
Topic D. What does the red convertible come to stand for, once we have read through and reflected on the story as a whole?
Topic E. How are the two brothers foils to each other? How nevertheless does Lyman manage to understand Henry -- and to persuade Henry to appreciate this fact?
Topic F. What can you tell, from the manner (and tone) in which Lyman tells the story, of the effect of the events he describes upon him?
