We plan to have a number of TEACHING WORKSHOPS at the 1998 CSAS annual meeting in Kansas City, April 2-5. Each workshop will cover a course found in the standard undergraduate curriculum, for example, socio-cultural theory, social organization, North American archaeology, language and culture, culture change, ethnicity, applied anthropology, hominid evolution, fieldwork, etc. We also hope to have session/workshops covering more specialized topics, such as having senior scholars discussing how teaching anthropology has changed during their careers.
The basic format we envision is an informal moderated discussion, covering such topics as assigned texts, good films and web sites, fieldwork projects, typical problems, creative solutions, etc. In other words, we want a real nuts-and-bolts discussion of what works for you in your teaching of this course, and what problems you still wrestle with. These workshops will *not* be panel discussions, but will be open to all participants. Leaders/moderators will get the discussions started. Participants should come prepared to share syllabi, as well as strategies.
