2 c cream of rice
2 c oat bran
1 c oatmeal, blended in the blender
1 can of French cut green beans, drained
2 cans sardines
3 cloves garlic, or use garlic powder (not garlic salt)
1 lb liver
2 eggs with shells
Puree eggs with their shells, sardines and green beans in the blender into a really nasty smelling liquid. Then liquefy the liver into an equally nasty liquid.
Add the dry ingredients, then put in enough more of the blended oatmeal to reach a consistency that will hold its shape on a spoon, but won't be runny.
Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees. Open windows! :-)
Store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Store in freezer for up to 3 months. Dogs love these so much it is worth the smell.
Apple Cinnamon Training Bits
4 c. whole wheat flour
1/2 c. cornmeal
2 T. vegetable oil
1 small apple (Granny Smith)
1 t. cinnamon
1 1/3 c. water
In a bowl combine all ingredients except the apple and water. Grate apple into mixture and add water. Mix until it starts forming together. Turn out on a lightly floured surface. Knead well. Roll out to a thickness of 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch. Take a straight edge and score the dough horizontally, then vertically to make a grid of 3/4 inch squares. Be careful not to score the dough so that it completely cuts through. Place on a baking sheet that has been sprayed with a non-stick spray. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. When cool, break into bits.
Nuked Hot Dogs
1 lb hot dogs. Turkey hot dogs and low fat hot dogs cook more quickly than hot dogs with a high fat content.
Slice hot dogs. I use an egg slicer to make uniform slices.
Place two layers of paper towels on a microwave-safe plate. Cover with another layer of paper towel. Microwave on high for five minutes. Remove from microwave and let sit for five minutes. Return to microwave. Low fat hot dogs may be completely done in another three to five minutes. High fat hot dogs may need to be cooked much longer. Be sure to cool for five minutes between each cooking session.
Repeat cycle -- cook, cool, cook -- until hot dog slices are dried out. These will keep for a long time in the refrigerator, and are supposed to be fine unrefrigerated. Just to be safe, I leave them out only when training, then return them to the fridge in between training sessions.
Braunschweiger & Snaps Sandwiches
1 large (12 oz.) box Alpo Snaps
1 Ib package Braunschweiger
Allow Braunschweiger to come to room temperature for easy spreading. Spread thickly (1/4 to 1/2 inch deep) on one Alpo Snap and top with another. With knife tip, smooth and square off along the sides to make a neat sandwich. Freeze on cookie sheets until hard; package in freezer bags. Allow to come completely to room temperature before feeding to your dog.
