WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW CAN HURT
YOU

Women who get an abortion run some serious health
risks, both immediately and down the road. Infection is probably
the biggest problem. Infection with Chlamydia is a growing problem
among sexually active teens. If you are already infected with
Chlamydia or Gonorrhea and then have an abortion you'll run a 1 in 20 chance
of the infection developing into PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Diseaes) which
is life-threatening.

Bleeding is another problem. About one in ten
women bleed so much that they may need a blood transfusion. Despite
the best efforts of blood banks there is still a chance of getting HIV
or Hepatitis B from a blood transfusion. There have been cases,
too, when young women were sent home and literally bled to death in their
sleep.

Some abortion procedures like prostaglandin and saline that cause contractions
that force a premature delivery of the baby can involve such forceful contractions
that the uterus ruptures.
Pro-choicers still like to say that prostaglandin abortions are safe but
what they don't tell you about are the convulsions, heart or lung failure,
vomiting, stroke, or even possible kidney failure.

After 25 years and more than 38,000,000 legal abortions there is growing
evidence that abortion leaves emotional scars as well as physical scars. Even
many women who think they have no problem actually have deep feelings of
intense pain and great sorrow.
Some feel that they
can't live with what they've done. They may have tried to hide
their feelings for years but the pain often just grows greater and deeper. When
something happens to bring the feelings up they say the same thing,"Oh
my God! I'm so evil to have done this".
With abortions done early in the development of the baby,
in some cases the abortionist accidentally pushes the suction tube right
through the wall of the uterus. This creates several problems,
especially if the colon is also perforated. This could cause
a life-threatening infection or in some cases make it impossible to ever
go to the bathroom normally again.
Others suffer a stress disorder (Post Abortion Syndrome) very much like
that suffered by some soldiers who come back from war. First
they try to deny any negative feelings, but 5, 10, 15 years
down the line something breaks through the barrier of denial. The
feelings that come welling up can make the woman an emotional wreck. She
may not be able to keep a relationship. Trying to end the pain
she may get hooked on drugs or alcohol.

Later on when the
woman gets pregnant again there can be problems caused by an earlier abortion. Sometimes
the Fallopian tubes (between the ovaries and uterus) are so scarred from
the abortion that the developing baby is too big to pass through and embeds
in the lining of the tubes. The baby tries to grow inside the
Fallopian tube (an Ectopic pregnancy) but because the tube won't stretch
enough it eventually ruptures - killing the baby and sometimes the mother.
Some estimates say
there is up to a 15% greater chance that the baby's placenta will cover
the opening to the womb after one abortion. Usually this means
that the attending doctor will have to operate and surgically remove the
baby. This may be riskier for both the mother and her child
than a normal delivery.
